Chiswick Town Hall marriage, followed by a reception at Dalston Roof Park in Hackney
“We wanted the daytime ceremony at Chiswick Town Hall to be a little more classic; sweeping staircases, old halls and vintage buses etc …”
“We had a selection of readings from family members which were ‘Vow’ by Roger McGough, ‘It’s All I Have To Give Today’ by Emily Dickinson and ‘Habitation Poem, ones which we had enjoyed spending hours searching for in our bookshelves and online beforehand. Then there were the songs! Tom First heard the song I walked down the aisle to (‘My True Story’ by Aaron Neville) on Keith Richards’ appearance on Desert Island Discs, and our exit song (Love Her Madly by The Doors) is a band that really means something to us … these still stick in my head to this day and I think they probably always will.”
“The ceremony goes by incredibly fast, but was definitely the most memorable part of our day!”
“The evening at Dalston Roof Park in Hackney was designed to be a giant celebration, with bits and pieces from every movie party you’ve ever seen!”
An eclectic, modern, stylish wedding with a party atmosphere and lots of details … including cardboard cut outs of the bride’s cats, flamingos, and a DIY kissing booth
“We tried to make our wedding reflect ourselves: fun-loving, eclectic and as stylish as possible!”
“We tried incredibly hard to source unique items wherever we could, from sweet-filled piñatas hanging over the stage to sparklers, a flamingo cake topper, gold pineapples, a bust dressed up in a top hat and veil, and custom made projections from Sapphire Goss.”
“We have three cats and of course, they weren’t allowed to attend the wedding, so we decided to have some cardboard cut outs of them at the reception venue, one of them even joined in our first dance!”
“We hired some giant letters to spell ‘love’ on the stage behind us during our ceremony and a light up 70’s dancefloor to give a ‘Saturday Night Fever vibe for the evening festivities!”
The couple sought to find ways of saving money and cutting wedding costs by asking friends to help, making things themselves, and scouring online marketplaces for wedding props and details
“By doing as much as possible ourselves and using many of our talented friends and family, we were able to bring people into the planning process. This helped to make the process a bit more personal, allow those who know us to play a bigger part than they might have otherwise, and it saved money.”
“Tom and his sister got their hands dirty by making a ‘kissing booth’ and ‘a wonderful night for a moondance’ stands for photographs, along with several A-boards and signs to give the whole day a personalised feel.”
“Finding all the unique places and items was the best thing about planning the wedding! Searching Ebay, Etsy, Pintrest and all our local vintage and charity shops threw up a treasure trove of things we used to dot around our venue. Making everyone smile with all the things we’d put together, seeing them dive into the lollipops, jelly shots, candy canes and cake, made everything very much worth it.”
An eat on the go burrito wedding dinner
“Music was really important to us, and we had a painstakingly put together playlist which journeyed from Northern Soul, Disco, Britpop and Indie all the way to a little bit of Led Zeppelin!”
“We also actively shunned the traditional sit down dinner in favour of an ‘eat on the go’ burrito offering which saved on space and meant our guests could get back to the dancefloor as soon as possible”
A bride’s advice to other brides: remember it is about love and enjoyment, so try not to get too stressed
“My advice … aside from making enough time to get our piles of decorations to the venue, and up in time?!”
“You underestimate how stressful everything can be, so try to remember that you’re doing it for love and enjoyment … those are the most important ingredients of any wedding day”
Thank you!! We are just off to Rome now, but have had a look through the pictures and are very impressed! We LOVE them! Thanks so much!! xx
